Best laminate flooring?

Hi guys.

Im ripping up our now 13 year old laminate, whilst doing out the kitchen / dining room. We had tile effect stuff from wickes which held up well.

Looking at a grey wood effect now. From reviews online everyone seems to recommend quickstep.

However, I would prefer to just purchase from a store such as B&Q ideally, but don't know if there are any products that they sell in store that are any good / comparable to quick step?

Can anyone provide any recommendations?

the best laminate flooring is Karndean or amtico . Tapi carpets do quite nice laminate as well, but not sure what brand they use.

a lot of laminate flooring can look nice, but on the cheaper brands, they are normally thinner than the two above, so they can scratch easy.

i have never heard of used quickstep before.. but that doesn't mean they are bad

We’ve had quickstep impressive ultra down in our hallway for a few years now and it’s taken everything my kids have tried to throw at it. It’s not cheap as laminates go but I would definitely recommend it. Also when you lay the floor it’s worth laying it under the skirting as it looks so much nicer than laying up to the skirting and using a trim.

Yes, I have already ripped all skirting off, doing a proper job.

Ended up ripping all the wall tiles off too.

I didn't know they sold quickstep in Wickes, thank you!

Isn't Karndean exclusively LVT rather than laminate?

I laid quick-step alpha in our bedrooms last year and it seems to be good quality and no signs of any wear. I bought it online but there were quite a few local stockists, so I got to view it in person first.

One thing I would 100% consider downstairs or in high traffic areas is to go for glue down lvt, done by a decent floor fitter. Although the quick step click fittings are very secure and appear hard wearing, if any damage ever occurs to the floor, you can't just lift and replace one piece.

Our whole downstairs is Karndean as well as the upstairs bathroom and en-suite. 10 years of hard use with kids and dogs and it still looks great.

It’s an investment and the install takes longer but has been worth every penny. Works great with the underfloor heating too.

I don't think the budget will allow for glue down LVT, it would mean a lot of prep to the floors etc and a professional install.

This was going to be my DIY job as have previously laid the laminate that is down at present.
