Best LAN Games for two computers

Either an FPS such as Quake 1/2/3/4, UT, etc. Or something like Warcraft where you can play co-operatively against the computer players.

what do u mean with one copy, one copy installed on 1 machin or the same copy installed on both machines.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but iam new to lan
 
One copy installed on each machine. I'm guessing q3 doesn't need the CD in to play, and ut2k4 doesn't, at least after one of the official patches. Each person installs it, one person starts a listen server and the others join using the multiplayer lan menu.
 
C&C Generals + Zero Hour has always been a favourite of mine in a 2 way LAN.
As somebody mentioned Serious Sam is good too. Sven Co-Op is better when there is at least 3 people I find. Splinter Cell Chaos Theroy Multi takes the cake though with a small Co-Op campaign of well designed levels.

thats how we do it with older games.
even if they need the disc just load it up on one pc with the disc in, then when it has loaded on that pc put the disc in the other one

The most fun i ever had was with the old apogee engine games. Try duke3dm Blood and shadow warrior.
 
If you're doing Quake 3 you MUST try the Rocket Arena 3 mod - it's the ultimate form of FPS 1v1 duelling! It eliminates map knowledge completely and puts the emphasis purely on skill.

BF2 with the patch that adds co-op game mode. Great fun for me and my brother to pile into a chopper and go around utterly massacaring bots. :D

Doom3 has a co-op mod, works really well and it's great fun too.
 
DoW 1v1 is stunning over a LAN. I've got my second comp set up in my room with the new one so to LAN I just flip round the second screen. that way you can look into your advercaries eyes as warpsdipers pour out of your hidden webway gate behind the enemy base.

And hear the screams... :D
