For my dad to browse the net word docs etc, or is there any better deals for the money?

they are as good as youll get for 400 , infact i never even realised you could get that good for 400!

top one has better spec and is cheaper

both will do what he wants flawlessly

remember to factor in the price of office if you need it. i probably wouldnt spend 400quid for word proccesing and internet though but thats just me

Sorry they ae without VAT so just over £500 :(

Depending on what you want to do with it, the TOSHIBA P200D-139 looks quite respectable.
It's got the Athlon 64X2 TK-55 CPU (1.8, 1600MHz FSB, 1MB Cache)

It's got 2.0GB RAM and the ATI Radeon X1200 graphics card, 319 MB total memory.
Bad news: it runs Vista but fdisk can sort that out ! And it 'only' has an 80GB HDD.

Upsides: 17" Widescreen - Firewire - 6 x USB and a 5 in 1 card reader.

£400 inc Vat on the street. £390 inc VAT but + delivery online.

I'm probably buying one at the end of next month unless I find a more suitable laptop for my needs at that price.
Notebookcheck is quite useful for checking notebook features but the market is vast and deliberately confusing.

AFAIK, notebook check are a reference only site and don't sell laptops.

You can't post links to or mention names of competitors here mate. :)

Ah, ok, I've removed the links but how can one recommend a laptop without mentioning the brand or where you can get it from ?

Serious question, I don't want to fall foul of the rules. Just trying to help someone in the same laptop buying position as me.
