Best "Low-Profile" Graphics Card Available ?

http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=277701

Some HTPC users just don't want to use a crappy 8400GS or HD 2400 in their highly polished rigs, so here is a chance: Galaxy showed us a low profile 9600GT.

Though the card becomes smaller but its spec did not change a lot: G94, 8 16x32 Samsung DDR3 memory module on board, providing 256bit 512MB memory, 8 layer PCB for stability, and one HDTV and one HDMI connectors. because of the tight area, the card did not provide MIO connector for SLI but guys at Galaxy told us that the card can do a "software SLI"(but this time we don't got a chance to see it). Don't forget NV have done some color enhancement in driver that excucively for 9 series.

The price and availably is not clear, but I guess it will be one of the highest low profile GFX card.

That 9600 looks very nice! If only more board partners made more products like this. I'd love a 3850 in this format for a HTPC I'll be building soon!

Does anyone have any idea when that 9600GT is coming out ? Its so damn tasty and would be absolutely perfect, wish this companies would stop be so secretive :(.

On the subject of smaller cards, I do really wish that either ATI or nVidia would bring out more 9" cards as that's all I can fit in my Antec Solo!

Hello.

Does anyone have any news on an availability date for the galaxy low profile 9600GT?

I made the mistake of getting a slim case, a dell (which is a good computer), i just want to update the current graphics card: radeon ati 2400 hd xt.

I was going to get someone to make me a new computer with my parts, but reading this news has halted that in its tracks.

Any info on this would be great.

Theres this thing going on somewhere at the moment called Computex where all these hardware companies are showing off there goods. Galaxy are there and the low profile 9600GT is there, but i cant find jack about it, none of the tech sites have put up any information about it sadly :( Im keeping my eye out though.

OOPS! :eek:The 9600 pictured doesn't look to have a power connector on board? Do you reckon it is drawing all it's power from a PCI-E 2.0 and as such would be a PCI-E 2.0 card exclusively? Or are there 9600GT's in existence without power connectors? In which case I need one as I thought I was limited to an 8600GT or ATI 3650.

Yes, it does have a power connector.

Nice on Phil, hope you get something usefull back :)

Little worried now that ive seen it has a power connecter, the PSU in the HTPC doesnt have a single spare power cable :/ And its only 275W ......

Had no reply from any of the places i emailed. There should be specialist low profile online retailers out there, ones that reply to emails anyway. Pretty sure there is a market for it? Maybe there isnt....

[edit]

Just checked email and got a reply from ********** this morning:

Phillip Harrison,

Thanks for your query. I am currently looking into this with our purchasing team. As soon as we have some information on this/these product(s) we shall inform you accordingly.

Best regards,

The new entry level cards appeared on the nVidia site for a period but have now been removed. I guess we weren't meant to know about them yet. Here are the specs if you missed them:

Model, Core Clock, Shader Clock, Memory Clock, Memory Amount, Memory Interface, Memory Bandwidth, Texture Fill Rate
9400 GT, 450, 900, 400, 256MB, 128-bit, 12.8, 3.6
9300 GS, 567, 1400, 500, 256MB, 64-bit, 8.0, 4.5
9300 GE, 540, 1300, 500, 256MB, 64-bit, 8.0, 4.3

All feature hardware decode acceleration for HD material.

The 9300 cards are low profile and so the correct form factor for HTPC. The reference card has a very small fan but I would expect passive versions with native HDMI to appear from card manufacturers.

The 9400 reference card is full height, but going by previous models, a low profile version may well appear further along the line.

Just an update for you guys interested in Galaxy's low profile 'Blade' 9600GT.

This is the email i just received from their tech support:

Dear Valued Customer,

Yes, our GF 9600GT Low-Profile version will be available in the market in July. Please stay tune for the updates!

finally a decent low profile card hits the market. i will be waiting for this one. have a few clients who bought dell pc's that have small cases and only take low profile cards.

If it is just a HTPC, you can often get away with onboard. I use intel onboard graphics in my TV box, and it handles video perfectly - I was a bit concerned it wouldnt handle the 1080i MPEG4 content on BBC HD, but it gobbled that up too - mainly because the CPU does the work.

Once you want to play games though, its a bit poo.

The galaxy low profile card looks very interesting, you could make some crazy small gaming rig with that. Anyone know if you can get a 16x PCIe right angle riser? :D

Well i recieved the 8600GT today, and sadly the fans too big and it wont fit (unless i make it bend.....) :( That 9600GT looks mighty tasty (and thin !) so i might just have to pick that up if and when it gets released. For now im just going to have to use the HD 2400 Pro.

Hi Ogs,

I was just wondering if you ever actually installed your 8600GT. If not, I'd be delighted to buy the blighter from you - I'm having quite a time finding a low-profile 86 for my mostly-crappy Dell c521.

Cheers,

zarathustra =]

Update:
--------
I have found one on Amazon - a German supplier, IIRC. I guess if you're not in the market, I'll just bite the bullet & purchase that one.

Sorry but i returned it and got a refund ;) Anyone know whats happening with this 9600GT ? I found 1 website in australia selling it............. :/
