Gents,

I'm looking to build a rig to try my hand at overclocking. I need to choose a decent MB to base the rest of my purchase around so using this as the starting block.

Ideally, it'll tick the following boxes:

C2D Compatible (Quad preferred as well but not essential)
On-board LAN (not worried about Firewire)
Decent enough FSB for overclocking
2 x PCIe-16 (For possible future crossfire use)
7.1 on-board audio / S/PDIF

Looking to spend £50 to £100 max.

If people could also recommend good-value overclockable RAM (2 x 2GB or 2 x 1GB) with their motherboard selection, that would be apprecaited.

Many thanks.

if you are really serious about future Crossfire use then ideally you want an X38 chipset mobo but atm they are all over £100.
OcUK/J&W are meant to have a sub-£100 one coming though.
For your budget there are plenty of good P35 chipset mobos but Crossfire will be compromised as the 2nd physical PCI-E x16 slot runs electrically at x4.

as for RAM I've just bough the G.Skill 2x2GB PC8000 PQ that's on offer this week so I guess that's my recommendation :p.

Cheers Buff. Crossfire is not essential as can update MB at a later date if needs be. Which P35's would be worth looking at?

Most of them tbh.

It really comes down to the features that you need/want & your budget.
Do you need RAID or Firewire for example?
The cheapest P35s with Crossfire capability are the OCUK/J&Ws but they don't have Intel RAID or firewire.
