Best Media Centre Boot Drive

I'm running a Kingston 40GB in mine, with the Intel TRIM firmware. It was great for speeding up browsing through my XMBC database. I've used around 25GB. The silence is great too, my HTPC is completely passive and gets all the media from my NAS in another room.

I got mine back when they were selling for £70, you might consider one of the Patriot 64GB drives since they are so cheap atm.

I did consider the Patriot, but heard bad things about them?

Although as the media centre isn't a performance machine, would going for the cheaper SSD still work fine?

my HTPC is also pretty quiet. I have the Fractal Design R2 Case with additional Fractal Design fans, a quiet 500W PSU and 7 x 2TB Western Digital Caviar Greens. An Asus HDAV1.3 provides the audio, and video is provided by my new fanless HD5570 - which is superb!

My boot drive is currently a very old 250GB SATA HDD and it clunks like crazy! Would like something nice and quiet!

i run the intel on mine, althou theres no noticable speed improvements when actually in the media center, the boot times are impressive, running mythbuntu and boots in a matter of seconds.

but they are also silent and use less power, so SSD's are ideal for a media center

Depends on what software you are using. Windows 7 Media Center uses SQL databases for the Guide and Scheduled Recordings which will benefit from an SSD.

i use the intel 40gb in my htpc along with win 7 media centre and i think the ssd helps with all the metadata stuff and transitions.

Just fitted a 40GB Intel in my Media Center PC. Transfer went very smoothly. It is early days yet but searching for listings from the Guide and Scheduled Recordings are noticeably faster.
