Best media player for Android?

A lot of you in this thread are saying MX Player. I've been using PowerAmp since 2014 (paid version) but I will give MX Player a go too.

Because of my eyesight though, my preference is a tactile MP3 player. I can jump through each file and through each folder using differently shaped raised buttons and I know which button is which without needing to see them. It can also resume long files next time you turn it on, which makes it good for audio books and hour+ long DJ mixes.

For music Poweramp is still the way to go. Don't forget you can pinch out to make Poweramp's UI bigger. MX Player is more for videos.

I downloaded MX Player this morning and pretty much instantly hated it. It overwrote my brightness and volume, auto-rotated my videos and ads were popping up all over the place. I could probably configure settings to make it better but why bother if ads are intruding where with VLC it works how I like it straight away and no ads.

Hard pass. HARD.

I posted earlier to avoid the free version since it's full of bloat, MX Player was bought out a few years ago and then changed it into something else. The Pro version has been untouched and is still one of the best video players. There's even a custom codec pack for it for proprietary codecs (you want mx_aio.zip) for things like AC3, DTS, etc: https://github.com/USBhost/MX_FFmpeg/releases

I've had Poweramp since it was a baby for Music because IMHO there's nothing better but never knew it did video.
In fact I'm never given the option to click on it for a video !
I can't see where I load videos in.

VLC supports more stuff like streaming URLs etc, but Samsung's video player just works, and if you're on a newer model then you can pause and long press on people or objects to cut them out.

Both players support network streaming.

VLC has all the codecs built in too, MX Player requires manually downloading and linking the external decoder where needed such as AC3.
