Best monitor for FPS gaming

I am sure you are doing all you can and I know the information can be conflicting and confusing - that's why just going for something and making your own decision can save a lot of hassle. Even if you do have to pay to return it under DSR.

It's true I don't know a great deal about monitor technology, however, it can't be denied that the U2412m has a higher response time than many other monitors available and it is 60hz which is apparently less preferable than 120hz.

In all other respects I think it is a SUPERB monitor. I've not noticed any issues with backlight glare like others have mentioned (sounds like that may be model specific) It's just those crucial milliseconds that mean life or death in fps gaming that are so critical.

Maybe the U2312hm is the one to go for with it's reported 0.6ms response.

However... the tried and tested 120hz TN panels really seem preferable for gaming to me. If only you could have the best of both in one screen. If I can afford it I might keep the Dell and run a TN panel for gaming as well.

Even if the input lag of the U2412M is slightly higher it doesn't mean the trailing is any better - and of course if you're comparing it to a 120Hz monitor the 'fluid feeling' is still not at the same level on the Dells regardless of input lag (half as many updates of the mouse movement per second and all that). Insofar as gaming is concerned I am actually finding the S27A750 (which is of course a 120Hz TN panel monitor) superior in many respects to the U2312M and U2412HM I reviewed previously. These thoughts are shared by others who have tested this monitor I kindly spent several hours tweaking - there is a lot to be said for the difference the screen surface can make. I think enough has been said about this be me already (most of it directly at Dell :)) but the true impact of this is often misunderstood. Other than price that is one of the things many people are finding very appealing about the Hazros - provided they get one free of defects and properly set up.

But at this stage you are quite right, you can't have the best of both worlds and a solution of multiple monitors for different tasks could work out well for you if you are willing to spend that kind of money.

I just got that on tuesday. Lovely moniter. Sadly i didnt get to play it in the bf3 beta but i've been playing rage and it seems fine for gaming.

yes the U2312HM is looking pretty good.

I'm actually thinking of the Samsung 2233RZ for gaming purposes as it looks like it will outstrip all competition in the price range in terms of responsiveness for hardcore fps gaming. I reckon i can live with 22inch as i will keep the Dell for other purposes. I just wish it was a little cheaper as it's actually more than the LG W2363D.

Any thoughts on the 2233RZ? Seems like the one to go for, for pure FPS gaming

You'd have to be pretty sad to know the answer to that. ;)...

... It relates to the colour of the LED lighting for the OSD control illumination. I believe PF is 'pink' and BF is 'blue' but it has been a while since I thought about this. :p

hahaha. Thanks PCM2, truly are a wise guy. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a lite version or anything.

I think i'm going to go for the LG. It's newer tech than the 2233RZ and cheaper too. I can't seem to find anything more suited for the response, input lag and refresh rate needed in FPS games. And i've seen a plethora of good reviews for the LG.

I'll let you know how I get on
