Best monitor with as little input lag as possible?

No ghosting either and having great picture quality would be a plus since I'm a fighting gamer I need instant responses. The Evo ASUS models seem to be highly talked about, apparently lagless but are hard to find in Europe.

Also the monitors should support HDMI input too. £250 max spend, ideally between 22-24"

If you want a monitor with as little input lag as possible then have a look at the LG W2363D - it is a 120Hz monitor with "thru mode" which does basically produce no input lag. In terms of responsiveness it is also very good. Have a look at this review.

However, to achieve this responsiveness it has to use a TN panel - so the image quality certainly won't be up there with an IPS monitor (but IPS monitors can't hope to be this responsive).

This one has a HDMI port - but if you want to make use of the 120Hz mode you will need to use dual-link DVI (since HDMI doesn't have the bandwidth to carry a 1080p signal @120Hz).

+1 to this ^^^

Just received my LG W2363D and it's amazing for responsiveness. The 120Hz really makes gaming and browsing et cetera really smooth. Do it now!

EDIT: It hactually has 2x HDMI ports but yeah use the DVI for 120Hz
 
TN display is fine as it'd be a secondary display for console gaming (again, mainly for fighting games). Having it running at 120Hz seems like I'll be paying too much for a feature I wouldn't necessarily use on a secondary display.
Will keep tabs on it, any other suggestions?

Yep, I had the LG W2363D for all of 2 days (had to send it back because the hdmi ports didn't work).

The thru mode was absolutely amazing. Best thing about the monitor. Zero lag.
The monitor also had a few bad points though I may have had a bad egg as far as the panel was concerned.
If input lag is your main priority, that's the one you want :D

LG 32LD450? :D 32" HTDV. Just got one, it's mint. S-IPS display with very impressive response time with no noticable motion blur or input lag.

I just played a few rounds of Unreal Tournament and it was just like playing on a (big) monitor! :)

£250, bargain! 32" would be ideal for console games too :)

Looking at this post - the input lag of the TV is between 1 and 2 frames (16-32 ms). This is very good for a TV and pretty good for a gaming monitor (not to mention one with an IPS panel). Also, I can attest that this TV plays games very well indeed, nice and responsive and no sign of ghosting. In direct comparsion to the LG it won't be quite as responsive - but it will still be great to use in games and due to the high quality panel it looks fantastic (just make sure you read through this thread so you can get it set up correctly).

That said, there is a panel lottery, so look through this post on how to ensure you get the S-IPS one.

I'm playing FPS games at a pretty high / competitive level on this and i'm as fussy as they come. Infact, still too fussy to move to the 24"'ers yet.

Define fighting gamer i guess would be the next question? :)

Looking at this and this review the LG seems to be about on-par with the Samsung and Viewsonic. All of these have zero input lag and well controlled overdrive for smooth motion (with no easily visible ghosting). The LG does seem to have a higher black level than the samsung, but the LG seems to suffer less from backlight bleeding.
 
The reviews suggest that but people i know who actually own them can detect a bit of afterglow which isn't present on either of the 22" 120hz screens, or indeed CRT's obviously.

People should know better than to outright trust review sites on reasonably specialist things such as these imo.

The whole response test thing is pretty flawed tbh as theres not even an accurate reading.

Fighting games are up there with rhythm games for the genre that most need instant feedback with your buttons moving from various TVs can really screw up your game and timings for links since you're dealing with buttons that are spaced 1/60th of a second apart (this is really apparent to anyone that plays SSF4 and the like). 1 frame of lag is about 16ms so ideally I'd want something that is 8 or less but 16 is still acceptable. Anymore than 1 frame of lag and it's a no go zone.

With FPS games it's the response time that really matters (not the input lag too much) as there aren't many monitors out there that can screw up your game thanks to having say 1-2 frames of lag.

So yeah, as a fighting gamer you need instant feedback else fear dropping links and combos you would otherwise never do ;-)
