Ok on the hunt for the most silent fans, but have acceptable air flow. These are for a bitfenix phenom. I've been asking about case configuration and passive heatsinks, but I will still need a fan or 2 for case airflow. Suggestions please?

Noctua P12's

Scythe Gentle Typhoon

Be Quiet Silent Wings 2

Noisblocker Blacksilent Pro

Noiseblocker Eloop

check some youtube videos for different fans you like the looks of/specs of. no doubt there will be someone who has tested them and posted a video so you can hear how loud they are.

For a long time now I've been using Akasa Ambers/smokes very happy with their performance and I think some of the ones Im currently using have been thru about 3/4 pc builds now and are still fine :)

i got both bequiet silent wing 2 and nocuta in 12cm and 14cm forms. I found be quiet fans are quieter at full speed as opposed to nocuta (i also like the finishing on them more). but once they drop below 80% speed, neither can be heard (this is before i got my 7970 and 7990 graphics card.).

what i found is that, at full speed, it is actually the wind/air vortex that is generated on sharp edges near the fan intake that causes all the noise. so it's probably worth taking a look at the intake grill too. :D

EDIT: i actually cut my ear when i tried to listen to the nocuta too closely because it was so quiet. :D

The Scythe Glide Stream look good! 600rpm is only 8dba and still 52m3/h. In a bitfenix phenom 2x 120mm at the front 1x on the back. Fronts sucking cool air in, rear pulling air out. 8db is nothing.

Scythe (nidec servo) gentle typhoons are the undefeated champions, I have never used anything that comes close. Below 1100rpm the other components in my system are louder than all 6 AP-15's (1850rpm models) The 140mm silent wings in the side panel is louder at 900rpm.

MLL has done some serious testing of them too. (several other round ups on there)

Be Quiet Silent Wings 2 are easily the best performance/noise ratio fan you can get atm. The cheaper Shadow Wings and Pure models are alright too but they don't have the same high quality bearing

Here's a decent chart, pretty old (2011) but accurate as I've tested a couple of these fans myself

:D please be reminded that while quietness/low speed is all good, it also means lower head/airflow.

make sure you compare head/airflow from different fans at the same noise level that you can accept. (afterall, no fan means no noise but also no flow :D)
