Best Net Options?

Hi Guys.

Got a slight problem at the moment with our internet connection. Ill explain.

At one side of the room we have our router connected into a phone line. At the opposite side of the room we have two PC's which me and the missus play games together on. We both use wireless USB dongles to connect to the internet, I have one in my computer and she has one in hers.
When we game together we both get very high latency, especially whilst playing World Of Warcraft.

Now what are my options to eliminate the lagg please?

Would one best option be to get a phone line socket installed under the PCs, and then move the router under the table so that we can both connect a ethernet from each PC directly to the router? Would this eliminate the lagg we are both receiving please?

Why not just run some cables from the router to your PC's when you game?

You could either run two network cables or just run one, and use a switch at your end. Simples. :)

How far from the router to your PC's?

cables seem the best solution to your problem.

What about them wall socket things that act as network extensions via your own houses wires?

To be honest we wanted a permanent solution . I did think about running the calbes but it isnt ideal. The distance is a good 25 foot away from one another. :S

Powerline adaptors would work but they are expensive and you will still need to run the cables from one end.

Two network cables will cost less than a fiver, or just run one long one, buy a cheap switch like this, then two shorter cables to your PC's. I have that switch as I have two office PC's in another room to my gaming rig and I just one a single cable under the floor into the other room. Works a treat.

The bad ping could just be your internet and you can't do nothing to change that. There's also that nagles algorithm registry thing to speedup WoW pings. Only affects the game and not your actual internet ping.

I would try and connect something like a laptop directly into the router and see the ping there. It shouldn't be much less than the wireless unless it's really bad.

Well the ping and latenchy when i am only gaming is fine and superb, but as soon as we both connect up thats when it becomes laggy. But on my own its fine?

Just spoke with the missus and the wiring wont do for her. We have laminate too, so not as easy to discard unlike carpet. Otherwise that sounded a cracking plan :(

So the only solution is for another phone socket?

Is it fine when you game on her PC? Could be she has some sort of malware hogging the upload speed or something. If not then you should try having a direct wire connection to see if it makes a difference. Could be that your wireless can't handle your computers (doubt it but working down the list of possible problems).

you won't solve this easily unless you go the cable route. Moving the phone line will be about £115+. Ethernet cable will be like £10. Perhaps getting a dual band router, or changing the whole wireless setting might help things a bit, but again, the cost will be huge. Homeplugs again will help, but probably at a cost of at least £50.

Half way house would be to move 1 pc close enough to wire it and leave the other on wireless.

Yup, its just when were both online and gaming when it really starts to feel the pressure. Im guessing theres too much strain on the connection?

Wifi congestion and throughput is probably the issue, also your connection might not be fast enough. See if one being wired helps it, and then go from there...

one thing you could do is get a 10 meter rj11 cable, the one that connects the router to the telephone socket, and route that around the room. Then you place the router near the pcs and get a couple of 2 meter network cables to connect the router and the pc's.

This has the advantage, over 2 network cables around the room, as it's the same diameter as a phone cable so it won't look any different than moving the phone socket as you would have to route the phone cable there anyway - you can use 5mm cable clips and tack it to the skirting boards also.
