Hi All :)

Since I broke my old 15" Acer laptop, Im after something a little more portable. I do a lot of nightshifts at work, so having something i can move easily between home and work would be good.

Also all i do nowadays is browse the web, check emails and play the odd movie, so i dont need anything top of the range.

Been looking at some netbooks, as i dont really need a cd drive either. The current ones seem to feature an Intel Atom N450 / 1gb Ram / 160gb HDD.

This (I think) would be ideal for what I want to do, but im not sure of the best netbook to go for. Ive seen an Emachines eM350 for £179.99 + 15% back with Quidco, so i thought this would be pretty good. Would ideally like to upgrade RAM to 2gb straight away too.

Can anyone comment on any of these netbooks. Would they be ok for basic browsing / email checking as well as watching the odd movie at work on nights?

There seems to be a shed load of these netbooks, all with pretty much the same spec, so im a bit lost which one to go for. Ideally, the less $$ spent, the better :)

Cheers
James

Are all netbooks Quidco compatible :D

never used it so :p.

With that 15% back you could probably put that towards a 2gb RAM stick for it.

Also look at the Acer D260 - new - similar specs (10.1 inch 1024x600) and i think they are more reliable than eMachines but it depends if its money that matters. - Price for D260 is around £200-£240 and im not sure if you can get money back at Quidco so maybe you could look into that.

:)

Thanks, Ive seen the D260 online for £198 but says This Product Has been discontinued.

Seems there is plenty of choice for this price / budget. I'll have to take a trip into town and have a play on a few in person i think :)

I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 that I can't fault. Upgraded the memory to 2GB and it runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit perfectly.

From what I can see this has now been replaced with the 1018 with prices starting from £229 inc VAT and delivery

Don't think I'm allowed to link to it.

Looks like you could get 3% back via Quidco on a mini

I did look at Dells..

Is the memory easy to upgrade on them, as with most netbooks, you have to take the keyboard etc off to get to it. Very few have the access panel underneath.

In contrast, i think the Acer's have an access panel direct to HDD's and RAM which is why i am considering buying one after crimbo. As for the 1018 or 1012, im not too sure.

I don't know if they made it any easier on the new minis but as you can see from the video it's not difficult on the 1012 anyway, few screws and pop the keyboard. Only takes a few mins.

I've had mine 6 months now and if I had to fault it I'd say it's the lack of backlit keys but I don't think any netbooks have those.

Thanks for all the help guys. Think Im going for the Acer Aspire One D255 Atom N550 Dual core netbook @ £237 + 3% quidco back. seems to be a bargain :)

I bought a Compaq CQ10 out of a certain supermarket for £219 earlier and from my first impressions I can't fault it.
