Best Nvidia card for WoW

Sorry OP for being so argumentative - I apologise. Not helped by me trying to limit the amount of coffee I am having recently...

I still think you should watch out for those gtx970 cards. The Gigabyte ones still have the remainder of the uk based warranty AFAIK.

I am an owner of a 970 And before it a 770. They both seemed to have a little stutter while playing mmorpgs ie. Wow, archeage, swtor. I can't put my finger on it and i have gotten use to it because I have To. I don't want to but I cba to return and try another card incase I suffer the same fate.

I have to admit last night I turned vsync off and this did seem to remove/decrease the stutter (a lot more testing needed as I didn't play properly I just ran around) but this is not ideal as it introduces tearing and I can't stand it.

Yeah, let's all now rely totally on assumption on the basis you were once right about something you'd assumed.

It was a safe assumption to make on the basis that if one is willing to spend money on resolving an issue then steps have been taken to resolve that issue already.

If I was wrong on my assumption then I would have corrected myself accordingly... alas no need.

WoD loads all 8 cores on my 920. Like quite a lot. Ok, I run in fullscreen-windowed, on a GTX 970. But upgrading the GPU hasn't been as much of a change as I expected (at least in WoW). The nature of the game, is that it is primarily AI focused. The GPU is just rendering the thing, which whilst impressive looking, probably isn't as taxing as the Metro games etc etc.

If the OP wants to change to Nvidia, then go for it. But looking at his CPU might be a good idea too. WoW is a lot more demanding than most people think (especially in raid environments).

I take some of these WoD using 4+ cores with a pinch of salt, looking at the performance CPU Usage graphic isn't a good guide as it's you full system.
Check you process Wow-64.exe, I suspect it's a lot lower.

AMD CPUs (or older quads) may use a higher % of their 2-3rd cores just because the primary single core performance is low to start with. In this instance a higher percentage doesn't mean better.

For instance if I run my i7 at stock 3.4 Ghz I will get a higher % CPU usage on wow compared to running at 4.5 Ghz, but performance will be lower.
The primary core is still the limiting factor with wow and that is unlikely to change.

Card suggestions, sticking with NVidia for the op, a 2nd hand GTX 670/680 would be a good option.

GTX 970 would be excellent, GTX 960 would be ok and a match for the GTX 670, but you are paying a £50 premium for buying new over a GTX 670.
Personally buying a new 2Gb card doesn't seem ideal. :)
