Best Operating system?

Surely it depends what games the OP will be playing? Most games that have come out post Vista release *should* work properly.

yes but his graphic card is Nvidia, and the Nvidia drivers for vista isn't good for playing games yet..

They work fine with my Nvidia 7950gx2. SLi is even working fine. On steam stress test I get 263fps average in XP Pro Sp2, I got 96fps average on Vista Ultimate 64 HTH

but its a big different from 263fps to 96fps..

I'm glad I switched from XP Home to Vista Home Premium :) It's a really nice OS! I've had no compatibility problems accept with Intel TAT and iTunes, other than that it's great  It even runs a few old 95/98 with no tweaking that I could never get to run in XP

If you use your pc to browse the web and general light work then Vista will suffice, but if your gaming then XP is better than Vista at the moment due to better drivers, optimisation and such forth :)

No, no, no, no, NO!

Windows XP is the best for games currently, end of.

At the moment it is, but it's only a matter of time till Vista drivers mature and Vista outpaces XP :)

A three ppl at work have bought laptops and desktops with vista installed, and all were returned to have XP installed, and these aren't experts, ordinary users with a nouse of intelligence (engineers). One had a prob with a wireless adapter, the other had the same plus others probs (wouldn't specify), and all of them said the same thing "looks pretty, but doesn't work as well as XP, will wait to see how it progresses in a few months time".

I like vista the way it finds all your hardware without requiring drivers in most cases.

Hate the way it uses over 500mb of memory just to sit idling on the desktop!

at the moment for gaming, i'd have to say XP, im taking vista off my c2d rig as it does nt like a few older games i have, which is annoying!!
