Hi all,

I went onto P2P today for the first time in a while (LimeWire, if anyone's interested) and I found it's really gone downhill since last time I used it. There was very little stuff available. What's the current gold standard in P2P software? Or are all the networks like that nowadays?

Cheers,

MD

Newsgroups aren't P2P, but they are the best method if you're willing to pay a bit.
Otherwise it's torrents. Azureus, UTorrent etc..

Yeah I'm often using torrents but I'm really after searchable P2P type things. My ISP doesn't carry newsgroups but I suppose giganews or something might be worth a try. I take it from the lack of alternative suggestions that P2P really is in decline then?

all depends on your isp tbh, whether they throttle them or not, BT do and BT also throttle port 80 after 4pm, that's why i switched to newsgroups, BT don't throttle port 119.

thanks for pointing out the obvious though Hen Dawg, as if i didn't already know :o

Of course you know that! Masterdog may not

Even my usenet connections gets slowed down in the evenings. However I'll take 300kb/s throttling rather than 15kb/s which torrents gave.

What do you mean 'searchable p2p type things'?

For smaller files, eMule is worth a try - I find it a lot better than Limewire and it fits the bill as foar as being searchable.
