I'm thinking of deliding my CPU because I want higher clocks and might even buy a AIO or better air cooler. Now it's old I don't have warranty to worry about so what is the best stuff to use after deliding? I've heard Liquid Pro is decent.

Hi mate, literally posted this earlier with pics on mine:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18747853

I did it on my 6700k because temps were getting progressively worse. Without a doubt under the IHS Liquid ultra (link in my thread) is the best performer, on the IHS to cooler use a good normal compound, I used Gelid Extreme and its pretty good stuff. Mine dropped 10c Idle, 15c ish load... Be careful to research your CPU and note how close the delicate stuff is to the glued adges (6700k is miles away).

Hope the thread helps...

Yeah thanks I'm reading your thread now, I have read into it as I was interested in doing this when I originally brought my CPU although it was powerful enough back in the day at stock alone so never wanted to risk damage/warranty. Starting to notice some drops in FPS since upgrading to the GTX 1070 though and hate it when I take a big hit. I'll probably use the vice method with a block of wood and hammer, have the hammer and blocks of wood just need a £10 vice from Amazon :D

Use some electrical tape to stick your pcb to the vice so it doesn't go flying!

Have you researched the vice only method?

Don't use a vice, its the most risky method you could use... Blade is pretty easy just take your time and do it by hand.

I wouldn't use a vice on something so delicate in a million years.

I honestly wouldnt put it in a vice... Why not just cut it.

Cos a hammer is more my style, I'll probably cut my fingers off with a razer blade no joke. A vice imo is just easier and less risky.

I want to do it because it costs me nothing except me buying a cheap vice for £10 (which I want anyway) and the paste £8 at the most. If I buy that tool or pay someone to do it I might aswell just save the money, I'd like faster RAM to but I'll be upgrading to Kaby/Zen/Coffee soon so no point in spending more on a dead end setup, if I kill the chip guess who gets his upgrade! I've had a lot of fun just doing funny stuff and not caring so much with this system now, the only good thing in it is the BX100 and GTX 1070.
