Best pc car game

PC has a different range of good racing games, totally brilliant ones, but none of them are like PGR3, they're all proper sim games (GTR/GT Legends/Live for Speed etc), and the rest, you can get on the console.

trying not to get an xbox 360 for pgr3

anything on the pc compete?

exactly the predicament im in, im desperate for PGR3 but dont want to invest that amount of cash in a console just for one game. and the racing games on the PC tend to be far too serious and real for me to enjoy. there is simply nothing like PGR3 on the PC though im afraid :(

The current Best PC game without a doubt in my humble opinion is RFactor.
Purchase online screenies etc here http://www.rfactor.net/

I race a lot and am in a team link here http://www.topsimracers.net/Joomla/index.php

I own the following PC games in my order of time played and preference.

1.RFactor + mods without a doubt the ultimate online racing experience.
2. GTL Great game for pick up and play.
3.GTR Patched to 1.5 is still a good fast racing experience but somewhat finnicky and buggy.

OK so why is RFactor the best. Well the cars handle great and the tracks are superb but best off all the code is open to all modders. This means near enouth weekly you get a complete new mod out that takes the game a step further. Currently i am racing a LeMans McClarenF1 mid seater jobby. Unreal i can tell you in a Marlboro skin.
The other mods i play are the F3 Euro's the PCCC05 Porsche challenge mod The McClaren mod the Protoracer mod The superkart mod i mean shall i go on. Ok the F1 champions mod the Evolution stock mods with oval tracks etc etc etc
Talking of tracks if you want it then post in the mod section of RSC forums found here http://forum.rscnet.org/forum.php and in no time at all its released for all to play. There are loads of tracks already released and up on servers from Adelaide to Donny from Nords to Anders.
There simply is No other game that gives you better value for money let alone another racer.
This is all happening as i speak as well with modders busy away patching current fave mods and adding to them.
There are leagues running locked servers but a simple reg form fill on there site allows you the PW and they are a great bunch on Rfactor. You stay clean they have no problem with noobs or casual racers.
I find with the open modding community and the hardcore league dudes there is a good balance on RF and respect is shown all over even during public quallys.
You go on as a noob and stay clean they are all helpfull and friendly and before you know it you are racing along side them and getting on the podium. Believe me when i say that a podium finish on RF is an achievement as there are some very fast sim racers out there.
One thing that stands out is the variety you can have for your initial payment. You buy the game online and within an hour of owning it you have a catalogue of games and tracks to last you a life time and all the while more and more roll out the modders door.
Fantastic game.

Agreed. Plus it has widescreen and is awesome on my Samsung LE26R41B 26" HDTV:

Nice! I have the same 26" samsung! I bought NFSMW and after installing it realised there was no widescreen support. So dissapointing. Gave the game back. Luckily the shop took it back.

Im currently playing Evolution GT and its great

There is one which you might want to try. It's called Evolution GT and I believe there is a demo knocking about on the net. Played it and to me is the closest thing to PGR/Gran Turismo on the pc. Graphics are nice. Handling is quite good, more tricky than TOCA but not as hard as GT legends etc.

Again, agreed. It is simply stunning. The game was designed to be modded. It isn't a game that can be modded, it was meant to simply demonstrate its abilities in terms of graphics, physics etc and how easily mods can be produced.

Being an F1 fan I am eagerly awaiting the F1 mod from the CTDP crew. The current best F1 game is GP4. One major drawback of GP4 is that all the cars have the same physics. You can't change them so that McLaren and Renault physics are better than the Midlands etc. Well rFactor allows each car/team to have its own physics.

Ditto all previous rFactor comments - those who rate 'arcade' games higher are uneducated! :D ;)

Glad to see a fair few RSC members here!!

I haven't "joined" RSC but I do check it occasionally. Some of the rFactor mods are quite stunning. I currently play the GP2 mod on my rFactor install. As much as I love GP4 once the CTDP F1 2005 mod comes out I will NEVER touch GP4 again.

Another game that is quite good is LFS (Live For Speed). It is in three stages of development with S1 and S2 out now. You can buy a licence for S1 only or S1 and S2. You have to buy S1 to get S2. You get loads of tracks and multi configurations for all tracks as well as lots of different kind of cars.

The graphics aren't as good in LFS as rFactor but according to the LFS thread the graphics aren't as good as they could be to allow the downloads of the demo/S1/S2 licences to be smaller and thus the graphics should be better when S3 is released.

rFactor is still the best by a few country miles though.

LFS does look good to me, but I don't have the cash to buy lots of different sims, so I'm just sticking with rF for now. :)

Yeah I agree. I bought LFS because another forum I visit had a few posts about it and I thought I'd try it out. rFactor is the finished product albeit it with patches and mods being released by the rFactor people. LFS is still a work in progress so it makes sense to concentrate on rFactor for the moment.

As an example i just popped over to RSC and guess what another track has been released Misano.
Even though my hand still hurts i am going racing.
What should it be though the Porkas, McClarens, Protoracers, F1, F3, Stocks, Lienz, Superkarts or maybe one of the others i have forgot.
You cn just feel the buzz around the Rfactor community daily. We all get hyped about a new mod or track rush out and get it then start setting times and hosting races. Of course this leads to a quality tight community that is continually buzzing about there latest ride or time.
I cannot promote this game enouth.
