Hey Guys

I'm looking for a new car, it has to be a people carrier/Turbo Diesel.

I currently own a Vauxhall Vectra LS 2004 Model, unfortunately due to my wife's employment as a Carer, the fuel economy on the vehicle is rubbish as she does a lot of short journey's. So we end up spending a lot more money on fuel, in this current "finance climate "with fuel prices going up it's becoming somewhat annoying.

I was thinking of part exchanging my car for a Vauxhall Zafira but we only have 2-3k to spend.

i did have alook at the S-MAX but they are pretty expensive, the cheaper ones are because the mileage is so high.

So advice is welcome.

Thanks

Dave

Seat Alhambra / Ford Galaxy (same car)
Kia Sedona
Fiat Multipla - Ugly as hell, but a good car.
VW Sharan

Any of those depending on condition and price.

Why does it HAVE to be a people carrier?

We have three kids (5yrs, 3yrs and 20 months) and manage fine with a MKIII Mondeo.

I'd consider my life over if I HAD to buy a people carrier.

A Vectra is not a particularly gas guzzling car. I find it hard to see how you are going to see meaningful and significant savings in fuel economy for short trips by swapping a Vectra for a £3k people carrier.

Hey Guys
my wife's employment as a Carer,

It's likely she'll be carting around lots of kids + equipment. You could get 5 kids in a Mondeo but it's not going to be legal.

Suicide it is then !!! :p

Personally I'd still rather get one of those Volvo estates with 7 seats. I hate people carriers with a vengeance though. :D

Don't get a Zafira B your budget might stretch to one but they are nasty nasty nasty plastic horrible trash, get a well looked after A instead, wish we kept ours now.

s-max cost more because its the best compromise out of the lot

it drives better than all its competitors

I always found the Zafira B to be a bit naff too, not all that practical.

The Smax does drive very well, but its expensive and the rear seats arent great at all.

The Mazda 5 seems to be one that has decent rear seats and a bit of a boot, but the middle seat is really narrow.

If you can get away with it, get an estate, but i can kind of see the attraction of having a mpv. But 2-3k to play with, you wont get a nice MPV just a cheap utilitarian vehicle like the Zafira.

If space is the key, my moneys on the Previa 2.0 D4D, plenty of them around the 3-4k mark and they are huge!!!

I don't like the rear seating arangement on seat alhumbra/ford galaxy and vw shran. The two rear seats are in the crumple zone. I seen one rear ended and the seat was almost touching the roof other then that there good cars the seat being better speced.

After driving around in my ex's Zafira I wanted to kill myself.

Get a Mondeo estate or something similar.

You sometimes have make sacrifices for your family, maybe its beacause ive got a child on the way, or that I have a close family, but i can kind of see the attraction.

But more than likely its cos im getting old :p In my defense I do have a SC'd MX5 for the weekends.

Dont all the MPV's have the rear seats in the crumple zone tho?
