I've been thinking about my various options and have decided against going for an SSD for now. I've narrowed down the list to 4 possible choices of normal HDDs:
Western Digital 150GB VelociRaptor
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
Which has the best performance?

To copy my OS can I get the trail of Acronis True Image or will I have to buy it? or can I use the built in tools in Win7?
??? All VelociRaptor drives are 2.5" form. It comes mounted on a 3.5" combo caddie / heatsink. Speed is the same since it's exactly the same drive as the 2.5" standalone model. That one only comes without the caddie as it is designed to fit in blade servers. There are two 3.5" versions. The older GLFS is not SATA backplane compatible but the newer HLFS has the connectors lined up correctly. If you bought a new drive the odds are very good it will be this revision.
