Best phone for ~ £100

Lost my last phone (Samsung Wave) so looking for a new phone. Monte Carlo any good? I think Android is a definite? Monte Carlo or San Fran 2? Can't really decide which is better out of the two. Would root and stick a fresh rom on both of them.
 
I would check out the Huawei Ascend which is currently exclusive to vodafone but trumps both the above on spec and still £100.
 
I have owned the SF and now have the Monte Carlo. The MC is a 4.3" phone whilst the Huawei noted is a 4" device. Also the Huawei has some issues with the loudspeaker.

The Monte Carlo I have found (my wife has one as well) is a very good value for money phone. I unlocked mine and installed CWM and it is now running one of the custom ROM's which is available for it. We both enjoy using the phone and it works out great for our needs.

I would pop over to Modaco and take a read in both of those phones forums to get some feel as to whether one or the other suits your needs.

Ah hadn't seen the Ascend thanks. Looks pretty awesome, better than the San Fran and Monte. Dunno how much bloatware it comes with. Nothing like as much as the Orange ones I don't think.
 
Can you get rid of the Huawei bloatware and just stick Launcherpro on? If so I'll probably be getting this. Reviews say the ringtone is too quiet but not really an issue for me, have my phone on silent most of the day.
 
The Ascend looks excellent for £100.

If you can stretch to £119 and you fancy something different to Android then give the Nokia Lumia 710 a go, excellent value handset, very well made, powerful Qualcomm 1.4ghz 8255T processor and Adreno graphics, decent camera and Windows Phone OS.
 
The Monte Carlo and San Francisco 2 only have ARM v6 processors, the Huawei has an ARM v7 processor so has native flash support and is also better for ICS compatibility and support as well. The Ascend looks great bang for buck as well, I used to have a T-Mobile Pulse which was a re-badged Huawei model so I would have no fears about buying another Huawei Phine. The Ascend should get a decent community following, I know Paul at Modaco has one so support should be good.
 
Gonna go bag the Huawei tomorrow me thinks. Cheers people. :)

You can root it and put a stock gingerbread rom on from here
