Where do you think is the best place to look for good deals?

If you had say, 1500 quid to spend on a good motor, where would you be looking. And what would you be looking for.

I have a Civic for sale, its good on fuel and just in your price range ;)

Lol this whole buying a car thing has got my head totally boxed. I have the money available to me, but knowing what to buy and where best to look is proving to be a headache.

As long as my insurance is under 1400 for a first car fully comp, then ill pay it. Even considered a mondeo ghia x 2.0l if i knew where to find a good example

Well my dads a mechanic so all my cars are looked after, only reason im selling is due to a crash i had last year in an Integra I had.

The civic is a 5 door and a 1.5, insurance group 8.

add me to msn if your interested.

I'm in the same boat as you Hedge after passing my test a few weeks back and completing my pass plus today. Ive been looking around and i cant make up my mind what car i want.

Have you tried a quote from Quinn direct?, any car up to a 1.6 seems to come in at £780 TPTT. That would leave a bit more for your car then, unless you want fully comp.

Im not 100% on anything to be honest.

The budget i have is basically £1500 (top end) for the car..

and as i was always expecting high insurance on first car, 100-130pcm would be an ok payment for me. So thats like 12-1500 or so insurance.

TPFT/Fully comp, i dunno what i would be best going for, the differences in price havent been huge in current quotes. But my priority is finding a comfortable 4/5 door car. With at least a 1.4 engine ideally.

So far Mondeos and Xsaras have seemed a good choice.

Taking the steps to buy are the daunting bit

TBH I don't think its worth going fully comp on a £1500 car.

Ok, im not even sure how insurance works haha.

My take on it is this...

Fully comp... i crash... i get the damage of my car reimbursed - excess...

tpft - i only get cash if its burned or stolen, if i crash, it only covers the other drivers (if involved), but i take the damage to car as loss in pocket?

is that right?

Fully comp covers your car and the third party/parties in the result of an accident.

TPFT only covers the other party/parties damage.

If you are involved in a non-fault accident with either type of insurance then your car will be repaired via the other persons insurance.

Its all a balance of costs involved. There is no way on gods green earth that I would be paying over a grand on fully comp insurance on a £1500 car. Having said that I do have fully comp on my <£1k car but the difference in insurance is less than £100, plus I need some of the aspects of fully comp.
