Aside from Specsavers, Vision Express and Boots, where else can you try on a good range of glasses? Even those seem to be relatively limited. I'm in the market for the first time so have no idea about other places.

Just got my first pair of glasses.
Specsavers. Pikeiest frames they had, everyone says they look good, I know they are lying. People are scared of me now they know I can see them.

I use an independent optician which are far cheaper than the ones you mentioned. But to be fair I have frames that I like and have any new lenses fitted in them. I see no reason to buy new frames each tine my lens prescription changes. So choose wisely the first time.

Try a pair you like on in a high street store and get the measurements off the frame, it usually is printed on the bridge, something like 53 17 and then the number off the arms of the glasses, usually something like 140.

You can then use these sizes to shop online for a similar pair of glasses as they come in different frame sizes. Just make sure to ask for your prescription and pupil distance measurement (PD).

You could get a genuine pair of Oakleys with prescription lenses for a tad over £200 online, would be double that in Vision express.

For a first time glasses wearer, personally I would still use one of the high street chains. I have had glasses since August, and within the first couple of months had been back 2 or 3 times to have adjustments made (e.g. nose pads changed for different ones, and eventually the arms shortened slightly to get a better fit).

If I bought them online not sure where you would go to have adjustments made?

I get tested and try on at SpecSavers then order from Glasses Direct / Direct Sight for 1/5 the price.

If I bought them online not sure where you would go to have adjustments made?

Adjust them yourself. Small pair of pliers and some kitchen towel and your sorted.

For your first pair; any opticians to understand frame size/type for your shape of head and PD measurement. Then Glasses Direct.
