What's your opinion? I've been running mine side loaded on NOW TV boxes quite happily for over a year now and it's fine but the menu is ugly and subtitles aren't supported unless hardcoded. Not sure whether to stick with Roku or get a Nexus player or similar.

Pretty sure subtitles are supported (they certainly are on my Black NOWTV box with plex on it). You need to go to playback options on the file you want to play and select which subtitles file to use. I don't use them a lot but I think I've done this with both files with subtitles included in the file (such as mkvs) and with files with external subtitle files.

I had the same prob with my android box didn't like the app that much was a lot better on the samsung smart hub a lot user friendly then the Android. But the smart hub plex app had to transcode HD audio couldn't direct play well it could play but it was out of sync.DTS direct played no problem. So looking for other method now. Not sure to get a NUC or try PLEXbmc on the android box. Maybe if your after a new box try the RPI 3 and run RASplex

Press the 'asterisk' button in play or select subtitle from playback options before playing on RARFlix.

I run PLEX clients on Windows, android, NowTV and FireTV. FireTV has just had the update and looks the best now, but seems to be missing features.

I like RARFlix as it works really well and has loads of features, but as you say it is pig ugly.

I am running the Plex client on two devices - the new apple TV and the Nvidia Shield. The experience on the shield is excellent - great remote control, it's got a fast CPU and does 4k output (should you need it)

Plex on apple TV is OK - though scrolling through a lot of movies/tv shows is not as smooth as on the the Shield

The shield would be to overkill for plex or kodi other cheaper alternatives which would work just as good IMO
