Out of all the pre built Watercooling setups that are now available which one performs the best and is regarded as the smart buy?

Swiftech H20-220 Apex "Ultra" Watercooling Kit (Socket 462/478/LGA775/754/939/940) (WC-014-SW)

or

Alphacool Cool Answer II 240 Watercooling Kit (WC-012-AC)

the rad, gpu block and reservoir let the alphacool down, as the pump and cpu block are better than the swiftech

tbh, id use somewhere with a wider selection, and a custom kit builder style thing :)

but of those 2, the Swiffy would be my choice, despite the relatively crappy cpu block

By pre-built do you mean pre-filled? Or simply a watercooled kit? If its the latter then the apex ultra would be hard to beat - better to go custom though.

"Better"? Bold statement with no quantitive value.

I will cede that an original Cathar-made Silver Storm, a pair of 50Z pumps in series, a PA120.3 with Panaflo M1A fans and Tygon R3603 1/2" ID tubing would cool "better" than an Apex Ultra but as to by how much and whether it would be worth the massively higher cost plus the mahoosive case to fit it all in is another question entirely.

Nothing wrong with the Apex Ultra system and it's damn good value.

Never said their was anything wrong with the ultra kit. It is probably the best 'kit' available, I was going to get one myself before opting for a custom setup. But better results can be had by building a custom kit (so said by various reviews/tests across the net) for little extra outlay and as its custom it can be designed to fit the customers needs depending on budget, case size, cooling required etc.

'Better' may have been a bold statement but its also a true one, according to the pros in WC (of which I aint one - I just read up before buying!).

The point is that "Custom" isn't a "little extra outlay". There was a time when a kit meant Asetek Waterchill and custom meant heatercores with home-made shrouds and Cascade blocks with Eheim pumps from aquarium shops. Those are no longer the best - you need an expensive Laing D5-vario or an Iwaki, you need a PA120.3, an expensive Nexxxos block or two. So custom now costs a lot to get the little extra performance over an Apex-Ultra with a D5, an Apogee, a Swiftech radiator and 7/16" tubing.

I should know - I've just replaced custom (genuine LRWW, heatercore, 1250, 1/2" Tygon) with a Swiftech 120.1, 6000 block, 1/2" OD tubing and an MCP350. Performance is very close, it fits easily in the case, it looks pretty and it cost less than the LRWW alone.

Well I would be happy with a kit guys and not custome seeing as I am currently on air and WC should give me a good temp drop either way.
