Best Processor for Video Editing.

If you render on an OCed CPU unless it has water or better cooling it sure aint gonna last a long time running close to the thermal limits!
I disagree. I run all my CPUs at 100% 24/7 and most are overclocked to their limits.

No as I was taking into consideration the std out of the box performance. If you render on an OCed CPU unless it has water or better cooling it sure aint gonna last a long time running close to the thermal limits!
I certainly wouldn't recommend overclocking on a works machine as productivity and stability are more important than speed as mentioned here and as for out the box performance, the E6600 over 50% cheaper than the X6800 and only 10% slower, if that.

The E6600 is most certainly the best performance/price Conroe processor today.

I dont see why not...

As long as you test for stabilty using dual prime then even the most hardest of situations when editing rendering etc... would not phase it as much as prime does so it will be fine.

Folding@Home works CPUs harder than Prime. I don't have any troubles.

That said, I still think that the Mac is the best choice.

Depends on the software tbh.

If using AVID then maybe but with stuff like adobe premier the pc is cheaper and does just the same kind of things

are you getting much better clocks on that beast of a cpu ???

Its helped with temps..

on air I was reaching 70c (hot days mind)

But now its 48c dual prime stable and I have silence :D

very nice i feel an upgrade comeing on lol
the cpu not water im not brave enough :D

Bah!

If you can afford it do it,

I was a noob at H20!

I'm not now lol!

plenty of people to guide you through mate ;)

Its great having nearly a litre of water pumping through your pc!

yea i might look at water cooling and then overclock myself, some nice guides around too, so shouldnt be toooooo hard. :p

Also wen u say if u can afford it do it, is it that much more expensive to go to H20, surely if u bought a processor and overclocked it, it would be cheaper than buying the equivalent none overclocked processor if that makes sense.
