Hi ya fellas,

A mate of mine runs his own business and his employees have been abusing the net and msn.

What's the best and easiest program out there so he can block surfing access (yet still keep emails and stuff active) and also block msn.

Cheers in advance

Steve

Couldn't your m8 just ask his employees not to abuse the privilege of having net access?

Oh, wait a minute......i bet he hasn't thought of that being an employer.

Course he has...... ;)

Why do you think im here asking for advice about software?

Well if he is using a router you could block the msn port/s. As for web, well that's a little more tricky, I will let someone else tackle that one.

Theres no point with the MSN thing, when we where at school, we ALWAYS got around it, the IT guys would block it and we would get around it, they would block it then we would get around it, never ending battle.

I dont think they have any tech knowledge regarding msn/configuration It's a pet shop :D- don't think he's using a router just modem.

Anyone used something like netnanny? Would this be fine for my needs?

1) Invest in a router *.
2) Uninstall MSN messenger and Windows Messenger and set their login(s) to be Limited User accounts. Have an separate admin account with a strong password.
3)To limit what sites they can access use something like netnanny.

* you could include 1 and 3 in one by setting up a gateway box with IPCop/Clarkconnect running Squid and IPtables, but this is probably a bit of a techie solution

as M0KUJ1N said.. setting up a PC that acts as a gateway/filtering prog and setting all the other comps on the network go thru it. U would be able to block any site, including webmessenger.msn.com .... would work well seeing as the naughty ppl arent very techie minded
