Im selling a few hard drives next week and I was wondering, whats the best program to format them? I mean totally as I understand Windows format leaves a trace or something of the data?

i would have just thought pop in ** pc, partition and format in the disk management... ive not known it to leave traces, and why not just sell the with no partitions defind...

Try a wiping program, I use Dariks Boot and Nuke (it's freeware).
It does American DoD, RMCP and even higher level random seed wiping profiles, like Fast PRNG (Mersenne Twister).
I know there are other progs out there that people will recommend but DBan has sufficed my needs and is very easy to use. I've used it at work on decommissioned machines.

It's true, windows formatted drives can actually be recovered. You'll want something like KillDisk or the suggestion from above. Make sure you boot and nuke/killdisk the right drive though! :D.
