I was checking RSRBR 2014 on youtube and found this:

To race right away go for rfactor as its cheap then head over to race2play they have a busy calendar with this with plentu of organised active leagues in one place place. Gtr2 is still going strong their and that only costs a £5 on steam.
Assetto Corsa though is a must buy for any budding simracer...it costs a fraction of iracing and offers the same if not better quality content. ..laser scanned tracks being 1. Multuplayer is due in a month but for now theres leaderboard apps to keep you motivated

Rfactor 2 is poor, really sloppy unfinished mess of a product. I think it's destined to fail in a big way now Assetto Corsa is on its way.
GSC2013 is good but pretty dated due to the old engine they use
Assetto corsa and Iracing are the way to go, both get updated regularly. I think Iracing is considerably better though, tracks are better for starters (ac tracks feel lifeless in comparison when it comes to ffb)

I would say iRacing is probably the best overall Sim/Service but for someone new to the genre the pricing at iRacing can seem a bit jarring.
I'd say give Assetto corsa a try and purchase the original rFactor so much good content for that.

Well if your after a good feeling sim, I love rFactor2 for that. Everything just feels right if you drive it like you think you would in the real world.
I do get where your coming from with the iRacing driving on ice thing, i used to think the same way untill i learnt how to drive there cars, it's a little different than most and you have to be careful at first until you comfortable.

As to be you, The car physics are second to none though some of them still need some work the Ice feel went a long time ago. Maybe your to used to aracde racers and believe a tire generates more grip than is actually possible ?
