Hey guys,

I need to replace my D-Link 615 because its getting old and I need to be on gigabit speeds. Looking for a router because I can't find an Access point with more than one LAN port.

I have looked at lots of my "favourite" branded routers and customer thoughts and can't find a product that has more good feedback than bad.

The router will only be used in AP mode, to connect 3 devices via LAN and some wireless devices when needed.

Obviously not looking to spend silly money, but if the product is solid... :)

Cheers in advance.

I rate the express very highly. It gives a nice set of features (dual band, guest access, good range) and can be used as an access point or a router.

I have mine as an access point for a Billion 7800, and it's ever needed a reboot.

Hmm that also looks nice.
Installing a program wouldn't be a huge issue, but that Asus looks nice and almost half the price.
Hmmm will have to compare the 2...

Cheers guys.

You don't need to spend £140. Go for the ASUS.

You can pick up a refurbished Airport Extreme on the Apple store for the same money as that Asus. That's what I did when I bought mine.

The software you need to install (Airport Utility) is purely for initial configuration. Once that is done, you can uninstall it. If you have an iPhone you can even set it up and configure it on there.

For what you get and the performance, it's worth the money.

Don't stereotype me. I don't even own a mac, I was merely saying that Asus looks like ****.. A reason for not buying it.

As well as buying something functional, it has to look good.

Methinks you got your pants in a twist because I dared mention an Apple device, despite giving my experience that the device a) does what the OP requests b) been rock solid for me. Horses for courses.

not buying it for looks and ignoring its absolute class-leading performance is exactly what KIA was referring to. You just played right in to that EVH lol. sorry:p

I haven't read the reviews (on the phone), but I still wouldn't buy it unless I could sort the horrible design out. Looks like one of my wife's handbags :D

You mention looks, but you have the 7800, ugliest router known to man. :)

//taps 7800

Haven't used the Apple, but the Asus routers are great. I've got an Asus N55U too. Not as tweakable as the Billion, but looks well made
