Best restaurant you have ever eaten at?

My favourite place unfortunately shut down a couple of years ago, the BBQ shack at the World's End pub in Brighton.
The chorizo hot dog with pulled pork was my go to order, the brisket and burnt end chilli was fantastic too.
Haven't found a place like it since.

Ah, some of my most memorable meals have been outside the UK - in France especially, UK seems to have lots of mediocre chain restaurants/pubs whereas the lower end French restaurant equivalent is still at a very good level in terms of food by UK standards.

I quite like places that don't have a dress code, are fairly casual etc... am more interested in the food than any atmosphere or high levels of service or views from some tall building etc...

So I'm going to throw in a random one - one of my local favorites is a sushi place in Greenwich called Zaibatsu... it is pretty casual, very basic tables/chairs, quite a small restaurant and you bring your own alcohol if you want... but it's decent sushi - better than the random chain sushi restaurants you find in any town/city... more on a similar level to the much more expensive sushi places in Central London.
