Speed of the WiFi is largely irrelevant but the range is important.

I currently have a Virgin media super hub and I manage to pick in up from the front of my shop but not once I step through the doors.

The joys of living a stones throw from where I work... Suggestions?

Something that'll take a directional/high-gain antenna could work, or even a variation on the d.i.y. parabolic reflectors people make.

One of the higher-end Asus routers (RT-N56U?) is also worth a look.

Yes, one of the higher-end Asus routers should do. You could replace one of its three antennas with a higher gain one to get you a more concentrated cone in the direction you want.

I would say the N56u. I got mine last week and its amazing can get my wifi from the pub.

only the N66u had external antenna's.
