Best RTS at the moment?

What is the consesus on the best real time strategy at the moment?

Is it still C&C Red Alert 2?

Starcraft is the best.

Rome Total War is great fun for its campaign and epic scale / graphics and it is endlessly fun.

Dawn Of War is great for some quick thrills.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Age of Empires at the moment. I dislike how some Civs are useless on it depending on what rules you're playing but it's still pretty good

Rome Total war for me.
If you want some real RTS class though, try out C&C Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Generals. Rise Of Nations is also worth a bash.

Get C&C the first decade but don't bother installing generals, it's pap.

Warcraft III for the win..

Good single player, even better multiplayer. As well as the standard multiplayer modes/maps you've got custom user created maps such as DoTA, Footman Wars, Hero Arena...etc, endless hours of fun to be had.

I think I just offended him by saying generals is pap. It's ok, I'll let this go because he obviously knows he's wrong.

And to any RTS fan why hasn't tried StarCraft... WHAT!!!

The balance and diversity of the 3 races alone make this game a marvel (I still swear it was pot luck that this happened). The game is unfathomably huge online, and I think these 2 videos say it all about the pro gaming scene (the most popular and lucrative pro game is existence is Starcraft... Counter strike what now?):

Truth, between DotA, Tower Wars/Defense and loads of other custom maps I've played WC3 more than almost any other game (and continue to).
