Hi all,

Ok have Arlo cameras and have just ordered two eufy S40 cameras off another recommendation (nice integration with home assistant/Synology and none of the stupid monthly fees, cloud laggyness etc!)

Now I'm looking at security systems (ie alarms, sensors etc).

Does anyone have recommendations in this space? I see eufy also do some here - if they're all much the same, then might go with these, but be great to hear thoughts if there's any features I should be aware of?

I think most of the decent alarm systems you need to be on a monthly sub to be able to use the API to integrate it back to Home Assistant.

I've got simplisafe integrated with HA that has been working pretty well, but you do have to pay their premium fee otherwise it just acts as a dumb unit with no API access.

Depends how you define "best".

Best for me was something easy to install, provides basic functionality and does the job, without a monthly subscription.

Yale Smart Sync ticks those boxes for me and fits my definition of "best" for a semi detached house on an estate in a low crime area.

It all works through the app, we arm it on a night and disarm in the morning. It notifies us if it is triggered and works really well just on batteries. We've had it for years and I don't think I've had to change batteries in all devices yet.

The hub is constantly plugged into the network and has its own power supply. It also has battery backup if power is cut. The siren in the hub is surprisingly loud too.

No, but dogs make noise. The faintest sound at a window / door in my house and you'll hear 5 minutes of yapping from the dogs.

Nothing is going to stop someone who doesn't care if they get caught.

Depends on the dog surely ;)

If it's on it's own in the house it won't deter a burglar.

If the dog barks they'll wait for a human response eg light turning on, if that happens then get out.
You'll be surprised how many burglaries happen with both humans/dogs in the house.

I don't deny it. I expect that will happen with all the other types of security system. There's only so much you can do to deter someone determined to rob your house.

My #1 is, don't live in Stoke. :p

Waste of money, you are not allowed to use cctv footage in court and majority of them hide their faces now, because they know people use cctv, everyone ignores house alarms going off, all you are doing is advertising that you have something worth stealing

I'd suggest,

1) Anti-snap locks
2) ANY alarm as long as you actually use it religiously. Don't make excuses - set it 100% of the time when the house is empty and 100% of the time when you go to bed.
3) Discuss it with your neighbour or the curtain twitcher on the street and ask them to react if they hear it going off.

My local facebook group has a burglary post every few days and its still almost always a lock snapping break-in and almost every time they don't have the alarm set on the house.

@Loagi reminds me - I replaced all of my standard locks with Yale Platinum anti-snap locks.

I watched a video where someone can get in the house with mole grips and a screwdriver within seconds. They destroy the door handle but it makes less noise than someone using keys to get in.

The Yale Platinum are great as they snap at a point that still requires a key - not a screwdriver. They won't be the best on the market but great value for money and they increase the time fidgeting with the lock from seconds to minutes. To me, that's plenty of time to get sorted and address the situation.

vouch for that i have 2 noisy welsh collies ..love them to bits but they kick up such a row if any post is put through the door.....didnt stop the folk trying to put my front door in one morning i was ill in bed so didnt get up quick enough . dogs went mad. i got downstairs and no post thought strange.... assumed they had just heard the traffic.

wasnt till later in the day went to open the door to fetch a parcel in and the guy delivering it noticed gouges and on closer inspection the door was bowed inwards...:(

still the hassle afterwards is in another post:)

We've got an Ajax alarm fitted at work. Was easy to setup and use etc. It's paired with Nest cameras rather than their own so can't comment on monthly pricing.
