Best sidegrade ever? (Q6600 to... Q6600 !)

Was 26C idle 52C under load at 3ghz, then 33C idle, 57C under load at 3.4ghz since last night/this morning.

Now i idle at 40C, under load hit 73C, i haven't done a thing. In fact the grease has had longer to settle in, should be cooler.

Yes, they do differ. Mine has the highest VID (base voltage) ever seen at 1.325v, basically restricts my OC to a lot lower. Also this batch has temp differences between cores of 10C. I've seen a couple of people who got the chips from the same place in same time period as me with the problem, to be honest, i'll never shop there again.

Where do you check the VID dude ?

The shop I got mine from had it displayed and sold as "the one that overclocks" (their words!) and they had loads in stock (OEM versions of course not retail) @ £149inc vat so I just went for it.

Perhaps the OEM ones are cherry picked ones?

Mine was OEM, and cost £152, lowest i could find. VID shows up in CPU-Z, but it's also the stock voltage.

I think i've burnt something out restarting BIOS all day since this morning, i could run it at 2.4ghz, and temps wouldn't drop a degree. Even Asus probe randomly shows 40C more than it used to yesterday.

:s

I don't really want to burn my cpu out!
Is there a max safe limit on the G0 ? bearing in mind I've only changed FSB so far and not made any manual voltage adjustments or anything!

To get an idea of max temps you should get 4 threads of Prime95 going and check the temps using coretemp, coretemp will also show you the default VID of the chip you have.
