Best SIM for UK & Spain?

Hi there,

May parents spend a lot of time in Spain, but also the UK. They don't really want a SIM for Spain and one for the UK, so I'm wondering what might be best? I did consider the Three SIM, but they're out there for more than 30days at once (and 90 in a year), so wouldn't be of any benefit I don't think.

Data isn't really needed, most important are cheap texts and calls.

Any suggestions?

Whats the issue with SIM switching? All other options are going to cost quite a bit until the new roaming regs kick in later this year.

I spend about half my time abroad mainly in Spain and I use Vodafone. £3 a day allows me to use my calls texts and data allowance in Spain. 3 will be offering this for free in Spain but they have a limitation on how often you can use data when I read the small print something like 25Mb max and no more than two months running. Vodafone don't care how often you use it or how much of your allowance you use - I've been doing it every month for over 3 years now. I use Skype out for calling other countries (ie not home to the UK which is my free minutes ) when I'm traveling as that gets very expensive.

I think three will be the best option.

I would have suggested EE but they have changed the roaming plans since I joined.

I'm currently paying 56/month which gives me unlimited calls between zones and back to the UK when i'm roaming (EU/US). Funnest thing is the only calls i actually pay for are internatioonal calls when i'm back in the UK.

Data on this package is £2/100mb/24hours or £20/1gb/30days.... However its not available anymore :(

The reason they don't want to SIM switch is so they can have just one number. Skype is an option sometimes, but a mobile is just far easier.

The new OFCOM regs are similar to what three have been doing if I recall? But aren't they not coming in until later than this year now?

Edit: Yep:

Since 2007, the roaming regulations have steadily lowered the maximum roaming charges allowable. A proposed regulation, which has passed the European parliament in April 2014 but still needs to be approved by the Council of the European Union, proposes to abolish end-user roaming charges in the EU.[1] While originally proposed to go into effect in December 2015, the change has proven controversial, and the latest proposal as of January 2015 has a 2018 effect date.[2]

Wrong. It's 25GB not MB. :D

All-you-can-eat data can only be used abroad when you’re in a Feel At Home destination, and is limited to 25GB of data use. If you’re on a plan which allows Personal Hotspot use, this isn't permitted in a Feel At Home destination. Find out more about Feel At Home
