Start off by buying the orange box.
If you don't like the games contained in it give up gaming, go do something else.

Get Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV and Skyrim.
Finish them vanilla before modding.

Buy Crysis 1 and Warhead still the best looking games around

Then treat yourself to Bioshock infinite.

Fun gameplay (don't take it seriously or you won't get it), awesome scale and graphics, laughably bad storyline. The single player game I always return to between other games.
