Best sink unblocker?

Old type net curtain wire, bendy and strong used it before as a last resort before taking u bend off, its good to push out gunge leave the hook or loop on the end if you can get it through the plug hole as it shifts the block quicker.
+1.

Works a treat on blocked toilets and drains too.

Mr Muscle is rubbish

you need to get some proper professional sulphuric acid based unblocker - doesnt matter what brand - get them from any DIY store they are cheap.

keep it off your clothes though. they have inhibitors in them so they dont destroy rubber washers or chrome plating.

Don't you use a plug strainer to catch all the food?

I suggest you use one when you have sorted the problem as it will catch most of the food... also using a bucket to wash up with would minimise the problem.

Although...saying that, I use one for my hair in the bath, but always seems to pull out gunk and hair when I clean the bath, so dunno how that is getting there :/

Sorry for the really boring thread but... yes, you can guess what the problem is. Lots of organic matter down sink which won't go away. I used a whole bottle of the Domestos Sink Unclogger which got rid of 90% of the standing water but there's still some left.. so it's obviously still blocked. I need to buy some more... anyone got any ideas on other ones?

I use a South African. They're good little workers, and they don't mind the mucky jobs.

:)

You can't always get at the u-bend though - certainly on our bath it means removing the grout or sealent to get the edge of the bath off. We've used the mr muscle stuff about once every 3 months with good results.

Too lazy to unscrew a U-bend but not too lazy to go to the shops? It really isn't that hard to do, all you need to do is put a bowl underneath to catch any standing water and hopefully you've got a passably strong stomach too as it will probably stink.

It may not be that hard to do but there is no room to put a bowl under there! The bottom of the bend touches a shelf which is fixed to the unit. Short of smashing the shelf off... I don't really have much choice. Apart from wire.

Kitchen sink gunk is quite possible the most disgusting smell I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing.

I agree with the "remove the u-bend" suggestion but it's not going to be pleasant, trust me.
