I'm in the market for a new TV and I'd prefer not to have any other "boxes" so am looking for a smart tv.

The thing that has annoyed me about smart TVs in the past is that the interface is slow and apps are slow to open so I want one that is quick.

Any recommendations on TVs? I don't need 4K or 3D and between 40 and 50 inches in size.

Samsungs latest is pretty decent (for has virtually everything you'd need) as is LG's webos smart tvs . However the critical thing with smart tvs is the processing power needed to run the smart software. Quad core at least imho especially with LG. Definitely test drive them beforehand. I returned a new LG as the lag using the smart software was horrendous (non oppriate soc in tv)

Android TV on the new Sonys has been a complete pain, particularly regarding being non-responsive, freesat tuner not working well, and the freesat EPG being useless. So I arranged for my TV to be sent back and replaced with a Samsung.

However the latest firmware update (yesterday, they've been averaging one every two weeks so I purchased it), seems to have resolved a lot of issues. The menus now seems responsive, Playstation Now was added, and you can side load Android apps. You can use google cast directly to the TV, and there is an app for the PS4 to allow you to control the TV using the Dualshock 4. Android does also have the Plex app, as well as Kodi, so thats nothing special to Samsung.

If they'd had the new firmware in place when the TV was released I might have kept it.

See I have a couple of Samsungs at the moment and although they are old, I worry that the new ones will be just as bad. It takes about 1 minute to get from standby to an app...

I have taken a look myself and I quite like the look of web os 2.0 by LG, but how do I find out if it has a fast enough CPU in there to not be sluggish, it doesn't appear to be listed on most websites?

I have a Samsung F8500 and a Panasonic E6. I appreciate there's a big difference in price but the Panasonic Smart features are fairly poor. Netflix works and throwing stuff from my phone to youtube on it works and I've managed to get it to look at my server for films.

Samsung has youtube, Amazon, Netflix, Plex (although I use a HTPC for this) think the Plex was a bit ropey with MKV files.

I have the Samsung JU6400. From standby to the netflix app is around 15 seconds, that includes selecting the Netflix user profile. I haven't found that frustrating, so far Tizen appears to be very responsive (which is the exact opposite of Android on the Sony)

HEADRAT mentioned any smart TV need Plex. There doesn't appear to be a Plex client for the JU6400, I'd assume that applies to all the 2015 Smart TVs from Samsung.

Also have this TV. My only bugbear with this TV, no plex. Have to use the Chromecast. :(

Otherwise Smart TV interface is quick enough.
