Best Sound card for the job?

I currently use the onboard soundcard that game with the Gigabyte motherboard and that's been fine except for stuttering in recording under Adobe Audition 3. Has anyone got recommendations for sorting this out?

I also play tons of games so some improvement in that area would be nice too!
