Present for the old boy for christmas.

Wanted peoples opinions on the best GPS Speed camera detectors.

Dedicate dunits only - he wont use it if its a hassle, so no point suggesting the PDA/TomTOM & GPS solutions (i use one myself, but its too much for him!)

Road Angel? Talex? others?

cheers

Got myself a Pogo earlier this year for similar reasons to your father - fed up with faffing about with PDA based ones. Seems to do the job nicely - neat install, hardwired into the power so doesn't tie up the the cig. power socket in the car, and easily removable from its base "docking" station.

It also gives a nice big readout of your GPS based speed in easily readable numbers, and I havn't found a camera spot it doesn't know about yet, even the temporary ones around motorway roadworks. Only downside is the price - the subscription is a little steep in my opinion, but I guess you pays your money and gets your goods.

thanks mate.

Could you elaborate more on the costs? purchase and subscription?

The unit costs around £250 (list price, I don't remember paying this much back in the summer), with £20 for the hardwire kit. You get 6 months subscription included, then its £50/year (inc. VAT).

You say hassle, but with our TomTom One, you just turn it on and listen to the warnings, no fidling about. And it can double as a satnav if he ever needs one.

£150 (ish?) for the TomTom and a copy of the camera databse will cost you about 6 quid for an update.
