Best Speed tester???

Just upgraded my girlfriends internet to 20mb and wanted to check what kind of speed she is getting?? Can anyone recommend the most accurate speed tester because they all are giving very different results ?

speedtest.net london server and speedtest.bbmax.co.uk both hosted by the same company and the bbc iplayer diagnostics page is good if you dont want to see your upload. All of these are capable of 50mb anytime all the time.

Microsoft download, Steam and speedtest.net give a pretty good indication of download speed.

If it's DSL then BT's own speedtest is pretty much the official result. Not sure it it works with LLU though.

Doesn't. Mine is out by 10mb if so.

I always use http://www.cachefly.com/ and find it very accurate.

Irrelevant. BT tool my line speed is 4mbit. Given I'm currently downloading at 1.5mb/s (~12mbit) from Steam on O2/be LLU.... BT can't be right

That was BT's reading of your sync speed or your actual speed? And how long separated the BT test and the download? Does that download usually work at full speed - many sites don't. You seem to be leaping to a strong conclusion on weak evidence.

If your on virgin media you can also go to www.gamefiles.virginmedia.com download a few demos at once and add your speed up and give a little bit for overheads.

Both gave me 9.9 on a 10mb connection.

I found one which was good was thinkbroadband and have gotten numerous false readings from speedtest.net.

I find using one of the linux distro downloads pretty accurate just pop 1-2 downloads and you will most likely hitting max speed.
