I currently have everything installed on a 2TB mechanical drive after having bad experiences with SSD's some time ago (quite some time ago)... I know they're much better these days and last longer and i'm thinking about getting another to use as a cache drive. I'm wondering if an MLC NAND based SSD will be fine for the next couple of years as a cache drive? I know Intel released SLC NAND based drives specifically for SRT a few of years back as they cope better and last longer with lots of writing, but would a recent MLC based drive be good enough? I know it can't be bigger than 64GB if I use Intel SRT.
Some people might question the performance gains, but I can clearly see the gains in a friends system and he is using one of those 32GB Sandisk ReadyCache drives (not sure how long they last though?).
I can get hold of an older 20GB, 24GB or 32GB Intel SLC SSD (still fairly expensive) or use a cheaper 32GB+ MLC SSD. What do you guys think?
