I'm looking for a good SSD to give me a performance boost on boot and general operation for my Dell Studio Hybrid is this the best choice currently or is anything new coming out soon?

Intel X25-E Extreme 32GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (SSDSA2SH032G1)

Cheers in advance,

M

More expensive drive, but generally considered the best performer. Check out the ssd tests on tomshardware for benchmarks. In a few of tests the x25e wipes the floor with the other drives. However, the drive is oldish now so there could be others around to steal the crown. I await further information....

Any current gen SSD will give you a noticable boost for what you want - Unless you're serving a database from your laptop i think you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference between an extreme and a normal X25-M.
On the plus side, The Extreme is based on SLC cells, which means it is going to last much longer than ordinary MLC SSD's and there are less worries about possible performance degredation over time - If you don't need more than 32GB and arn't pressed for cash, i'd say go for it.

If either of those is a factor though The best bang-for-buck SSD's out at the moment are the Crucial M225 range.

Really looking for something for desktop usage, that will boost performance considerably.

I'd like a product thats likely to last for a long time, and don't need anything other than a small size as I use an external drive for storage and wont be installing more than a few Gbs of apps.

Sounds like the Extreme version may be the (more expensive, but worthwhile) way forward...

Cheers guys.
