Best steaks in London?

Both are great but I prefer the steaks wnd sides from Goodmans. Starters and deserts I prefer the hawksmoor however :p

This is probably where I stand on the issue too. Goodman is much more of an American taste, and the steaks taste slightly sweeter, plus their creamed spinach is one of the greatest things ever.

That said, a porterhouse I had at the Guildhall Hawksmoor was impeccable and without a doubt the best steak I've had. On top of their starters (Tamworth Belly Ribs in particular) and their deserts being better than Goodman's, I prefer their drinks list. Cocktails all excellent and their wine list is much better - I love a good Burgundy and Rhone with beef, and their selection of these, particular their Hawksmoor Rhone's are brilliant.

All in all, the Hawksmoor experience trumps it for me - also their breakfasts our outstanding.

Been to Goodman's (CW) twice, would go again. Lovely steaks, service and atmosphere.

I would like to try a Hawksmore and Goucho just to compare.

I wasn't impressed with the seven dials hawksmoor at all.

It was exceptionally busy and the steak was average at best. The rest of the meal and drinks were lovely though. May have just been unlucky :(

Thanks for the replies all

I think I might give Goodmans a whirl this time although I'm tempted by the Savoy too lol

Those Tamworth belly ribs from the Hawksmoor are lovely :). But I do love the honey carrots from Goodman, and prefer the slightly sweeter taste of their USDA beef.

Hawsmoor is as good as anything I have had in UK but I think I have been spoilt at various steak houses in the US which are a world ahead

This for me too. The service is better, the American meat is better, the way they cook it is better, the sides are better and the desserts are better. Hawksmoor is exceptionally good, quality American steakhouses are just....better.

I've never had an excellent steak in London.

Sadly I agree.

I'd go to Goodman or the Savoy Grill if I had to for steak but really unfortunately I've never experienced a great steak here. Which really sucks because we have so much amazing meat here :(

.
From where I've eaten, I don't believe that there is a best country to eat steak in. Providing you get top quality meat and it is cooked to perfection, you can't go wrong. I do remember paying a lot less for my steak in the US and South Africa compared to London though.

You need to go to Argentina, the steak is litterally to die for non of your USDA grain fed floavourless stuff! I could feel my ateries clogging after a week!

All in all it was a fantastic experience, and was as good as if not better than any steak ive had anywhere including a few good steak places in Las Vegas.

Well we made our decision and went with the savoy grill and also have booked in for Sunday dinner at foxtrot Oscar , probably try out bodeans aswell or Pitt cue if possible , got another night to line up but will probably go for Italian or Chinese

I can always visit London again next year to get my meat fix lol

I went to Mash last night and thought that it was brilliant. The quality of the meat was excellent and it was cooked to perfection. The restaurant is huge so hopefully it shouldn't ever be a problem getting a table. It wasn't cheap though - around £100 per head including lots of drinks.

My visit to the Bodean's in Clapham was awful.

Bodeans is what it is - fairly cheap American comfort food. Some of their food is pretty mediocre but I really like their beef ribs and chicken wings. They also have the best selection of American craft beer of any restaurant I've found so far in London.

Just back from London

Foxtrot Oscar was nice, small and intimate with really nice food, we had roast beef with veg and Yorkshire pud , the Beef was really good but the veg was exceptional , I could have sat and ate a bowl full of their carrots heh

The other half had a vanilla cheesecake with poached strawberries and mint granita for pudding and I had a plum and almond tart with clotted cream ,both were really good and I'd easily go back again

The savoy was exceptional , I had a ribeye and she had the fillet , Sides of new potatoes With parsley, green beans , marrowbone and shallot sauce and some creamed spinach, both steaks were superb and among the best I've ever had, the sides were all excellent too

For Pud I had a strawberry and almond millefuille and the missus had profiteroles with tonka bean ice cream and chocolate sauce , again both were really good

Service was the best I've ever had and the place itself Is very extravagant , a return is already in my mind next year

We were sat opposite someone off the telly I forgot her name but the missus was excited lol so it's all good

Bodeans was packed when we went so ended up going for a cheap and cheerfull bella italia instead

We also went to the golden dragon in china town, it's a big restaurant and the service is a bit hit and miss but it's reasonably priced for some great food, the lights above our table broke and the waitress was prepared to stand over using her phone as a lamp which we found amusing but told her it was ok we found the dim light quite nice

Anyways hopefully we will be back next year to try some other restaurants and revisit some others
