building a new pc for my father in law(to be), now he says its mostly not for gaming hence the budget i've set.

so from looking so far i've got it down to one of the following, unless anyone has any other ideas:

OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £76.36
OcUK GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £70.49

If hes not gaming save some more and go for a 7600gt or even less.

If he does intend to play games without a doubt the 1950 all the way.

Just get the pro. It's cheap enough and will be able to play games if the urge is ever there too. I'd rather have a PC that is not for gaming with the ability to do so when needed ;).

Definately pro, as you say its 'mostly not' for gaming, which implies he still will play games.

If he doesn't play games what is he doing with it?

cool thanks for the fast replys, i was kind of leaning towards the pro, just wasn't sure how much.

he has doom and quake on his current pc a celeron thing that has been dying for about 2 years or so. Think i might get him Doom3 or something to show off his new pc :)
