As title, iv got some creative tactic headphones right now, while there sound quality is very nice there not surround sound, im after some excellent quality headphones that have amazing positional surround sound (ideally 7.1)

ALSO they MUST be USB so I can switch between them and my normal sound card without having to mess about with audio cables.

I've no idea what best so over to you OCUK :)

Squirrel. I got the sennheiser PC333D headset for xmas.

Plugs in via USB, so no mucking about. 7.1 surround and the positioning is really good. Very good soundstage. They are also great with music, which can be a rarity with gaming headsets. All round better than my old logitech's.

Look stylish as well. I also find the volume control on the ear very handy.

They weigh in at a ton. Well worth it imo.

PC333D is an excellent headset - tho not the most comfortable - some people apparently find they clamp too hard but personally I didn't find them any more uncomfortable than average but my ears do get warmish after prolonged gaming sessions.

If you do get them note that Dolby Headphone mode is enabled by sliding the top of the USB dongle til the DH logo lights up in blue - something thats not the most obvious at first.

Great sound quality, crystal clear mic, coupled with great features for any gaming where you need voice comms. The surround effect is good to tho I find it more suited to single player games IMO CMSS-3D is better for multiplayer but everyones different when it comes to which HRTF system works best for them.

I have a set of these too, they are amazing as others have said, they are great in both games and with music, such clear sounds. I use these all the time when playing Arma2 and BF3.

When a jet flies over you hear such detail in the sounds and you really get the feeling it just flew over for real, more than one occasion I have looked behind me thinking is that out my window.

Has anyone had strange experiences when plugging these into USB 3.0? I have a new case and using the Front panel USB3.0 with this headset accelerates all media files and sound, this happens in both offline and on youtube

Rroff,

Can I ask you please.

I never knew that about the headphone mode. Does give a better sound, but is it just for 2 channel sound or does it improve surround sound as well?

I'm not sure I quite understand exactly what it does.

It changes the "signature" of the sound, the main purpose is to emulate virtual speakers (in 7.1 mode IIRC it will try to position sounds as if coming from those speakers around your head) it works better with some stuff than other stuff and can improve the surround sound for gaming. For music I have it off but quite a few single player games it improves the immersion.
