Because "reasons" I need to have a clear out of a bunch of stuff that isn't valuable, but it would be a shame to dump it all in a skip and burn what can be burned. Things like various sized old boards, worksurfaces, big wooden ladders (they might actually be worth selling) some double glazing units, a fish tank etc.

I'm thinking about giving Facebook Marketplace a go. Any suggestions for better options?

Also, thoughts please which is the better method for getting stuff taken away whilst trying to weed out the worst of the loons and timewasters. Advertise stuff as free for collection, or give everything it's own (modest) price?

Usually I put stuff on Facebook groups dedicated to giving stuff away, and say I'll give preference to whoever can pick it up same day. Gets shut of all sorts of stuff very quickly and avoids timewasters.

Take stuff straight to the tip/charity shop these days, every time ive put something up on FB market place for free/collection only, i just get hit with the "i'll have it" to be followed by "can you deliver" snipers.

Olio might be an option as that is far more strict on people abiding to the requiments. 99p no reserve pickup only auctions on ebay is another shot but you still end up with the odd buyer who cant read.

Heart Foundation charity have some big stores that take large items, best to phone them and ask if they will take certain things though.
As others have said if you leave certain things out front someone will take it, especially if metal.

I've also had "I'll take it off your hands if you give me £20" but the best one was a road bike I was selling for £100 "I'll give you £50 if you bring it to Glasgow" when I live in Stoke :)

put it outside with a sticker saying free.

they do it in other countries all the time, even Switzerland you see plenty of furniture at the curb side saying "gratis"

Where I live in the UK behind my place is a car park with commercial bins.

people rummage through them at night... if you live anywhere near migrants and your stuff has any use left in it, then it should go.

carboot, you be amazed what people sell.. also there's cleance companies that will take it off your hands for free to re-sell.

I need to ebay off a load of stuff so that my family just don't bin it when I kick the bucket.

I usually use Gumtree for this type of thing, even sticking things on for £5-10 and they tend to go quite quickly. I do live in a medium sized town though so depends how rural you are I guess.

I have it set to not get notifications and I just check it when I have time so I'm not inundated with numptys who've not read the post properly.

I’ve made some decent sales with Facebook market place anything that doesn’t go I usually take to a charity shop

depends, if you can be bothered to deal with people trying to haggle you until its practically worthless
