Is this Barca side the greatest ever team?

Are they better than the likes of Brazil 70 and the Milan side of the 90s? How do they compare to the Liverpool team that couldnt play in Europe?

As a huge United fan i take my hat off to the team that beat us last night - fair and square, the best team won. However im not convinced that they are the best team ever as some people are saying.

They are the best team at the moment and have been for the past few yrs;)....i wouldnt say they are the best team ever though....but at the current time, they are the best and probably will be for some time yet.

I think its a given that they are currently the best XI in world football. That wasnt the question. How do they fit in with the greatest teams down the years though?

They do have the best players in my opinion. Every position has possibly the best player in the world. Messi, easily the best RW/forward in the world. Villa, best striker IMO. Pique and Puyol, amazing. Then there is the playmakers, Xavi and Iniesta, insane. Best passers in the world. RB, Dani Alves, brilliant. Pedro isn't that good, but certainly isn't bad. So yeah, best team in the world and ever has been IMO. Messi best player to grace this earth so far.

Well...

They have the best player in the world bar none, who all by himself at 23 has broken and will no doubt continue to break all sorts of records. Unless he's snipered or something..

They have the finances and name to keep their best players and get a few additions, leading to a well balanced squad.

They've also won 3 Champions Leagues after its expansion. Sorry Liverpool, Bayern, Ajax and early Real - but the competition just wasn't the same decades ago. There are more games, and they continuously compete against a rather static set of opponents. And for the most part it appears they keep beating them.

They've won everything in the last few years. When that happens you look to see if they can defend their trophies. To scrape the bottom of the barrel the only thing left for them is to:

win and defend a European Cup, possibly go for a hat trick,
" " " Copa Del Ray " " "
" " " World Club Championships " " ".

Bar that there's nothing else really.

Probably one of the best, wouldnt say they are the best as most of them still have long careers ahead of them but suffice to say id put them in the top 3 teams ever.

.

They really dont.

They are a financial mess, hence the loan last summer to pay the players and the selling off of squad players.

Looking past their first XI the squad is actually quite bare. No that it matters if the first XI keeps playing like they do......

More was made out of that then really necessary. There was no issue with their finances and they're back to being fine again.

They may have trimmed things down but then that's because it's the smart thing to do rather than doing so because they're broke. Each player still recieved a £650k bonus last night. :/

But that didn't even answer your question.

I'd say if they add another European Cup - particularly if they can defend next year's title then that would certainly put them above the AC Milan team that wasn't just good in the 90s, but also won two European Cups at the beginning of that decade. They're like Man United, they consistently pick up trophies. I think in 7 years or so we'd be able to compare with Barca, taking the best 14 year periods I can:

Man United 14 years:

European Cups: 2, 2 runners up (?)
UEFA Cups: 0,0
Cup Winners Cup: 0,0
Leagues: 9, 2 runners up (?)
Domestic trophy: 3,0 (?)

AC Milan 14 years:

European Cups: 4, 2 runners up
UEFA Cups: 0,0
Cup Winners Cup: 0,0
Leagues: 6, 2 runners up
Domestic trophy: 1, 2 runners up

Barcelona 7 years:

European Cups: 3
UEFA Cups: 0
Cup Winners Cup: N/A
Leagues: 5, 2 runners up
Domestic trophy: 1, 1 runners up

They've been through their great patch for half the time, but are easily comparable. At the moment their trophy count isn't as good but that will remain to be seen in 7 years time.

Barca are a team that has been built to play that style of football. Most other teams just buy in the best layers they can afford, Man Utd included.

Barca have been built as a cup side. Keeping possession and closing the opposition down like they do is the way to win knockout competitions.

Best team right now, definitely. But I'd love to see them play against a proper defensive team like Milan of the 90s.

Messi is certainly the best player to play in a world where every flick and touch is YouTubed seconds after it happens.

Personally i think Ronaldo and Messi are two of the greatest ever but thats just personal opinion.

Alves is style over substance but fits perfectly into the Barca system. Its hard to call Villa a success really.

I certainly wouldnt say they had the best players in the world other than Messi and their CM.

it was very real

"Barcelona failed to pay their players at the end of June, club president Sandro Rosell has revealed.

Rosell, who succeeded Joan Laporta at the financially troubled Catalan outfit last week, also said a loan of about £125m had been secured to pay wages.

"We found a club in debt, with liquidity problems. At this point we have to take a loan to pay the wages of the players," he told Sport.

But Rosell said Barca can still afford Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Barca recently sold defender Dmitro Chygrynskiy to Shakhtar Donetsk for about £12.5m to help raise much-needed funds, even though coach Pep Guardiola had been keen to keep him.

The club is not bankrupt because it generates income

Sandro Rosell
They also sold Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure to Manchester City for about £20m.

However, Rosell has moved to reassure worried fans that Barca's problems are under control and that the process of securing a loan had already started under the previous board.

"The banks know that we have a business plan that will allow them to recover the money. The club is not bankrupt because it generates income," he added.

"The members shouldn't be afraid because it is under control. We must resolve this tension.

"It can be done in two ways: to have extra income, like selling Chygrynskiy, and/or taking a loan, which is what we have done.

"The previous board had already begun this process. We followed the same path - the same banks, the same target but with a different business plan. They [Laporta's board] also knew they needed this credit." "

During the Madrid games he made some brilliant tackles as well, his defending really isn't as bad as people make out at all.

LOL i think you will find they do;)...

Best player in every single position? You think Valdes is the best keeper in the world? Abidal is the best left back in the world? Pique and Puyol are the best centre backs in the world?

They have the best team but saying that is just stupid.
