Best thermal paste?

MX2, OCZ Freeze or AS5

Personally I got AS5 because it was a quid cheaper than the other two - they really don't make all that much difference.

Over stock, yes, between each other? Not so much. A degree or two either way - about as much as you'd get just by random reseating.

Perhaps Big Wayne, but most people when pushed will agree on what they mean by better.

Generally its the coldest option they're prepared to attempt. I'm pretty certain solder is the best for heat transfer, so I vote that as the best. Few people seem to consider that a good idea though.

MX-2
2-5c better than AS5 and doesn't have to cure over time.

Expensive but it will probably last you to do the CPU+GPU and repeat 4-5 times so a well spend few quid.

Would be interesting to see what the temp differences would be - not sure how to go about application though lol.

thermal paste is thermal paste

That's definitely one area where I don't agree with you. Different formulae have different effects due to particle size and shape, materials used, viscosity etc etc.

The difference between different products can be huge. I thought it might be quite useful to post up this little round up of 33 different pastes:

My experience with the Zalman grease was pretty poor, but then again it was free with the CNPS9700 so no complaints.

Liquid metal wins it I believe, but is electrically conductive, quite fluid, and difficult to obtain
I'm using as5/mx2 on various things

The liquid metal also eats through aluminium like nobody's business and stains copper.

I heard that the liquid metal pad however has similar effects without possibly damaging your equipment.

where can I get a "bulk" amount of thermal paste? I dont mean like a kg of the stuff, just bigger than 3g of stuff lol.

I believe one of the best thermal greases around the TIM Consultants TC0098 can be found in large containers if you look around. Even in KGs if you wanted ;)

You should be able to do your cpu, gpu and even chipset with less than a gram, don't know what you need a kilo for.

was about to post this

MX-2 is one of the best
i wouldnt say its 5c better but i dropped 2-3c off my temps over Ceramique
