Best thermal paste

Alpenföhn Permafrost 2 for me. :)

Which reminds me, how often do people re-apply thermal paste? And also does it have a shelf life (my tube is 3 years old now)? If I have to renew I may try out their Alpenföhn Blitzeis next (on par with Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut but cheaper apparently).

You need to reapply haha.

I just launch the thermal pad in and forget about it.

Very rarely have to re-apply thermal paste if applied properly in the first place, some exceptions like earlier batches of certain Thermal Grizzly types which were needing redoing in a couple of years or so though supposedly they've fixed that. Typically I've not seen any noticeable degradation in performance until around 7 years or so, by which point most systems are past their useful life anyhow.

Properly stored shelf-life is usually 6-8 years though it can be hit and miss - I've found pastes which weren't useable past 3 years in a drawer and others fine at 10 years, etc.

Cheers @Rroff

anyone use the Extreme version of Kryonaut? Either the paste i have is too old and needs replacing (have a stash of thermal paste since a good couple years ago maybe) or i'm not patient enough, and when trying to repaste my CPU, it was extremely thick and almost impossible to spread evenly, so i gave up and used normal Kryo instead.

Is it meant to be that hard to do? it was like Cryonaught but just wouldn't spread properly.

Depending on how old the paste is, though I thought it more than 2 years ago now, apparently they changed some of those pastes due to issues with lifespan past about 2 years both applied and shelf life. I had to repaste a couple of systems but if my memory is correct that was like 2019.

Have you checked the authenticity (depending where you got it from) ? there was some fakes of TG pastes popping up on the likes of Amazon and/or old batches being sold by some marketplace sellers, etc. not sure if still the case but they used to have a code you could scan.

nah.. i get all my TP from OCUK or any reputable retailers online... and in urgent situations, theres a local Currys nearby which stocks them.

Yeah it's a pain to spread for sure, the lower ones are easier to use unless you intend to go sub 0.
